How & Where To Get Great Care

Locating Clinics

  • Refer to our online provider directory for your clinic's telephone number.
  • VHP clinics have 24-hour answering services that will put you in contact with the on-call physician.
  • Many of our clinics have office hours beyond normal business hours, including weekends. Please contact your clinic for their specific hours.

Emergency & Urgent Care

Should I call first before going to an emergency room?
Valley Health Plan does not require you to obtain an authorization to visit the emergency room. Our first priority is to make certain our members get the care they need when they need it. If you are experiencing symptoms which, without immediate medical attention, will result in serious jeopardy to your health, please go to the nearest emergency or urgent care center. Any emergency or urgent care services will be eligible for payment subject to your contract, including co-payments, coinsurance or deductibles. Again, you do not need to call Valley Health Plan before seeking emergency treatment.

Will I be covered if I am traveling out-of-state?
Yes. If you are traveling or are a student living outside of the Valley Health Plan service area, initial services are covered for emergency and urgent care according to the benefit plan your employer has chosen. All follow-up care must be received from a Plan provider unless you have received an approved VHP authorization prior to the care being provided.

Call Your Doctor
Your doctor needs to know about all medical care you receive. Even if a problem was solved in an emergency room or an urgent care center, your doctor still needs to know. Please request to have all emergency or urgent care records sent to your doctor's office.

Specialty Care
VHP will provide coverage for a member to receive a second opinion from another VHP Network Provider subject to the contract benefit provisions and limitations. To obtain behavioral health services, hospital services or specialty care, you can talk to your physician, check our Provider Directory or call the Customer Service Department at 715-836-1254 or 800-472-5411.

Continuity of Care Rights
You may have the right to continue receiving care from a terminated Valley Health Plan provider if the provider continues to practice in our service area and was not terminated due to misconduct. In general, if the provider is your primary care physician, you may continue to see that provider for the remainder of the calendar year. If you are undergoing a course of treatment with a specialist, you may continue that course of treatment for up to 90 days. However, if maternity care is the course of treatment and you are in your second or third trimester, you may continue to see that provider until the completion of the postpartum care for you and your infant. For more information, please refer to your policy or benefit handbook or contact Customer Service.
